Soar into the New Year on your bike - January 02, 2018

2018 is here and with it come a whole bunch of opportunities. Truth be told, we think any time of year is a good time to start something new and exciting but there’s not denying that January 1 has that fresh feel to it.

Hopefully one of your 2018 resolutions is to start using your bicycle for more than just pleasure. Don’t get us wrong. We think cycling is one of life’s great pleasures but we get a great deal of enjoyment knowing our bikes are tools as well as entertainment.

The best way to take your bike beyond entertainment (and fitness, of course!) is to increase its functionality. A bike is a great way to move you and you alone (unless you’re on a tandem) but takes a little bit of tweaking to move it into workhorse territory.

Of course, you know we’re going to recommend a bike trailer for exactly this. We are so predictable. But we’re also right. A bike trailer provides one of the fastest, easiest ways to extend the utility of your bike. And we have the most comprehensive line up of the very best bike trailers on the market. End of marketing-speak!

But let’s consider stretch goals. You know you’ve got your eye on that dreamy cargo bike that can do everything your second car can do. Groceries, drop the kids, pick up a cello. All that stuff you do in the course of your day (except maybe the cello part) is made easier with a cargo bike.

But the trailer is a fraction of the cost! And we agree. But for those looking for that big bike upgrade, we suggest you start putting some pennies away now. We aren’t going to do the math for you but we are certain that with a little bit of planning, you could be cruising in a new cargo bike sooner than you think.

One of the biggest barriers we can see regarding cargo bikes it the cost. So let’s look at ways to

Here are some suggestions to make your cargo bike a reality:

Talk about it

Our first instinct when it comes to larger goals is to keep quiet. Better to keep quiet now than to explain why you don’t have a cargo bike a few months from now. But telling others about our ambitions is one way to make those things come true. Those that you talk to about your goals can support you on the journey and get you back on track if you’re having issues.

Start small

Coming up with the full amount of most things is difficult. But putting a little something away every paycheque or every month takes the sting out it.

Keep your goal front and centre

Print off a picture of your goal (ahem, maybe the cargo bike below?) and put it somewhere you can see it. Stay focussed on the goal!

With any luck, you’ll be on your new wheels well before 2019 rolls (ahem) around.
